10 fishermen have been arrested for illegal hilsa hunting at different points of Padma river in Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur.
On Sunday (October 23), a hilsa conservation campaign was conducted under the leadership of Shahina Ferdausi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Wildlife.
During the breeding season, ten fishermen were arrested and handed over to the Faridpur Naval Police for filing a regular case against them. The arrested fishermen are- Suman Jamaddar (35) Nuru Jamaddar (45) Bachchu Bepari (30) Abdur Rahman (18) Zaman Sek (40) Shaheed Bepari (25) Ilyach Shikder (50) Ayub Ali Shikder (60) Amirul Pramanik (32) And Matin Sek (45).
District Fisheries Officer Prashant Kumar Sarkar, Senior Assistant Director Bijan Kumar Nandi, Deputy Assistant Director Shabnam Mustari, Upazila Fisheries Officer SM Mahmudul Hasan, Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Jewel Rana and members of Faridpur Naval Police and Charbhadrasan Thana Police were also present.
After seizing 110,000 meters of Karentjal in the raid, it was burnt and destroyed and two kilograms of hilsa fish were distributed among the needy.
Upazila Fisheries Officer SM Mahmudul Hasan said that under the leadership of Joint Secretary Shahina Ferdausi of the Ministry of Fisheries and Wildlife, operations were conducted at various watersheds including Diara Gopalpur of Upazila Padma River and Diara Coconut Baria Char, Akotechar, Shaitankhali, Char Nasirpur and Ariyal Kha of Parsvati Sadarpur Upazila. is Ten fishermen were arrested in the operation, 110,000 meters of curentjal and two kilograms of hilsa fish were seized.
